According to eye-witness reports, the 56-year-old comedian - who is a renowned car enthusiast and regular guest on BBC programme Top Gear - walked clear of the wreckage after his vehicle struck a lamppost and a tree, before bursting into flames.

Atkinson was taken to Peterborough City Hospital for treatment and examination.
Sources said he was left 'shaken' by the incident, but was found to have escaped with no major injuries.
The crash occurred on the A605, a single-carriageway country road that spurs off the A1 just south of Peterborough, at 7.30pm on Thursday.
The East of England Ambulance Service confirmed a man had been treated for 'a minor shoulder injury' shortly after 8pm.
Meanwhile, a spokesperson for Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue Service added: 'Crews attended the scene and brought the fire under control and made the vehicle safe by 8.13pm.

Atkinson is perhaps best known for his role as Mr Bean - a largely silent and clumsy character whose lack of self-awareness gets him into comic scrapes.
The veteran comedian is also well known for his role in popular BBC TV series Blackadder, where he starred alongside House actor Hugh Laurie and co-writer Tony Robinson, and first found fame on satirical sketch show Not The Nine O'Clock News in the late 1970s and early 1980s.
